"Spotted a deer struggling..."

“Our friends spotted a deer struggling to stay afloat in the lake, so we tried guiding it back toward shore. The water was freezing, and the deer was visibly shivering while trying to swim. It kept slipping underwater and looked completely exhausted. It was pretty far from land, with busy roads surrounding the area, so we knew we couldn’t just leave it. Once we reached it, it immediately went limp and rested while we helped bring it back to shore. Thankfully, it made it safely onto land with our help. We also called wildlife rescue, and they sent people out to check on it afterward. Thanks to my brother for the filming.”

Even though the water was cold, the idea of how that story could have possibly ended was even colder. This boat crew knew that in their hearts and were not about to let that happen. They didn't even hesitate for a second on their decision to rescue this wild animal. What if the animal was rabid? What if it had a deer tick with Lyme disease on it waiting for some human contact? What if it were too late and your efforts were worthless? All of these questions could have and even might have passed through the minds of these people, but it didn't matter. This was an innocent creature in need, and bravery can come even out of fear; in fact, debatable only when there is fear first!
So we applaud this group of friends, and we hope this deer has a happy, long, forest creature life! And hopefully learned her lesson about going for long swims…
